Government today said, the Bharat Net project has been launched in mission mode to connect all Gram panchayats to provide high speed internet services in the country. Replying to supplementaries in the Lok Sabha, Minister of Communications Manoj Sinha said, the project is being implemented with the objective to create network infrastructure for providing Broadband connectivity of 100 mbs per second to nearly two lakh fifty thousand Gram Panchayats in the country.<br/><br/>The Minister also told the House that the scheme to provide mobile connectivity in Left Wing Extremist areas is under implementation through BSNL. He said, so far, a total of 2,186 mobile towers of 2,199 locations in ten states as identified by the Home Ministry and approved by the Cabinet, have started functioning.
