The two day strike called by major trade unions evoked mixed response on the second day today. Although normal life remained unaffected in Tamil Nadu, Andhra and West Bengal , the strike disrupted normal life in Kerala, Punjab and Haryana. The banking operation also were hit by the strike across the country.
It, is however, business as usual at privates sector banks. The All India State Bank Backward Classes Staff Union and State Bank SC/ST Staff Welfare Council are not participating in the strike. A release issued in New Delhi by the Chief General Secretary of the All India State Bank Backward Classes Staff Union says the demands and issues raised by the trade unions should be resolved through amicable negotiations.
The bank strike is part of a two-day nationwide strike call given 11 central trade unions to press for wage hike in the back drop of rising inflation.
