Bhakhra Dam receiving large quantity of water

Gobind Sagar lake of Bhakhra Dam is receiving a large quantity of water these days. The level of water in the lake is at 1576 feet which is a record in the month of May. This level is above 58 feet to the level of water last year these days. Officials of Bhakhra Beas Management Board say that daily more than 18 thousand cusec water is being received in the lake which is due to the melting of snow in the upper regions of catchments areas of river Satluj. With the record level of water more power is being generated these days and extra water is being released for irrigation purposes for the states of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan.
