Beni Verma backs Salman Khurshid

Union Minister of Steel Beni Prasad Verma has said there is no need for Law Minister Salman Khurshid to resign on alleged corruption charges levied by Social Activist Arvind Kejriwal.

Talking to reporters in New Delhi on Monday, Mr Verma said Kejriwal intends to uplift his newly found career in politics by making baseless allegations on the minister. He said, Mr Khurshid has a public record of service to the nation.

Earlier, reviewing the performance of the Public Sector Unit Metallurgical and Engineering Consultants (India) Limited, MECON, the Minister asked it to concentrate more on procuring projects in the area of Slurry pipeline, Pelletisation and Benification plants.

Mr Verma also advised the company to increase its turnover, which is less than the MoU target for the period. He expressed hope that by 31st March of the next year, the company will achieve its projected target.

AIR correspondent adds, the company has procured jobs worth 411.29 crore rupees in the first half of this year which is less than the targeted procurement of 535 crore rupees. The net profit for the fiscal 2011-2012 was 643 crore rupees.
