Karnataka capital Bengaluru will be the venue for Pravasi Bharatiya Divas next year. In a joint press conference with Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said the theme this time will be – Redefined Engagement With Indian Diaspora. <br/><br/>She said suggestions will be sought from the diaspora on how to increase tourism in India, how to improve consular services, and how to turn India into a destination for holistic medicine, among others. Mrs Swaraj said around 3000 delegates, mostly from Gulf countries, are expected to take part in the convention. <br/><br/>The Karnataka Chief Minister thanked External Affairs Ministry for giving an opportunity to host the convention in the state. He said 4 lakh people of the state live in different parts of the world. Mr Siddaramaiah said his government will leave no stone unturned to make Pravasi Bharatiya Divas a grand success. <br/><br/>The portal for Pravasi Bharatiya Divas was unveiled on the occasion. Delegates can register their names through the website. The logo for the Convention was also unveiled.<br/><br/>Pravasi Bharatiya Divas convention is held on 9th January each year to commemorate the return of Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa in 1915. It is celebrated to mark the contribution of the overseas Indian community to the development of the country.
