The Bengaluru International Airport has become 2D Bar Code compliant. A delegation from International Air Transport Association (IATA) presented the compliance certificate to the management of the Bengaluru International Airport today.

The Airport management claims that this technology will reduce costs and improve customer service for both airlines and airports by introducing faster and easier check-in. This enables conversion of paper documents into electronic messages both for passengers and air cargo, saving time and increasing accuracy.

The 2D bar codes can be accessed from anywhere in the world. Marcel Hungerbuehler, CEO of the airport said that this is convenient for the passengers and eliminates the need for archaic and expensive magnetic stripe boarding passes. The saving from this process implementation is estimated at USD 1.5 billion every year, he noted.
