Bengal to withdraw cases against people involved in mass movement

The West Bengal Government has decided to withdraw the cases against those who were involved at various mass movements particularly Singur, Nandigram and Netai in the State. Addressing a public rally at Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata Thursday afternoon, State Chief Minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee said that many people were falsely implicated by the previous Left Front Government for taking part in mass movements and the cases against them will be withdrawn. Ms. Banerjee reiterated that 52 political prisoners currently detained at different jails will also be released soon.Mentioning her government achievements after two months in power, Ms. Banerjee claimed that problems in Darjeeling hill, Jungle Mahal and Singur Land issue have been almost settled. She firmly said that government will not forcefully acquire any land.AIR Kolkata correspondent reports that on this day, in 1993, 13 youth congress supporters were killed in Police firing during a political prgoramme in the city. Ms. Banerjee was the then State Youth Congress President and since that time the day was observed in each year as martyr day. The Trinamool Congress decided to observe the day as 'victory day' after coming to the power in the state. The Pradesh Congress also observed the day.
