Bengal orders probe into Tamang killing

The West Bengal Government has ordered an inquiry into the killing of All India Gorkha League President Madan Tamang in Darjeeling. <br/><br/>Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee held an urgent meeting with state Chief Secretary Ardhendu Sen, Home Secretary Samar Ghosh, DGP Bhupinder Singh and Urban Development Minister Asok Bhattacharya and reviewed the situation in the hills.<br/><br/>Tamang was killed by unidentified assailants in Darjeeling town yesterday morning.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, tension prevailed all over Darjeeling hills following the murder. Normal life was paralysed after the incident as shops, business establishments and educational institutions remained closed on Friday. The district administration has deployed additional security forces in sensitive areas and is keeping strict watch on the situation. <br/><br/>The Trinamool Congress has condemned Tamang's killing and alleged that there is no security of life for common people in the state and sought Central intervention. In a statement, party General Secretary Partha Chatterjee said law and order has collapsed in the state and it is time the Centre intervened to ensure security of life and property of people.
