The West Bengal Government has decided to amend the present law to punish the illegal users of ground water. Giving this information in Kolkata on Wednesday the State Water Resources Investigation Minister Mr. Soumen Mahapatra said that Multi Storied Housing Complexes and small factories are using ground water by sub-mersible pumps, deep tubewell without taking any permission from the Government. Mr. Mahapatra said that, a recent hydraulic survey conducted by the State Government revealed that the ground water level has sharply declined at various parts of West Bengal.
