The West Bengal government has set up a five member committee to regulate auto-rickshaws in the city and suburbs. After a meeting with various trade unions and auto operators, State Transport Minister Madan Mitra said that the committee has been asked to submit its report within seven days. Mr. Mitra also announced a ban on purchase of new auto-rickshaws till further orders. He said that the government will act tough if any dealer try to sell auto-rickshaws violating the government's decision. The Minister however, ruled out hike in the existing passenger fare and restricted the number of passengers at four.
