Bengal Govt promulgates ordinance to return 400 acres of Singur land

The West Bengal Government has promulgated an ordinance to return 400 acres of land to the unwilling farmers of Singur. The State Governor, Mr. M.K.Narayanan has given his assent on the ordinance on Thursday. Giving this information in Kolkata Thursday evening, the State Chief Minister, Ms. Mamta Banerjee said that remaining 600 acres of land in Singur will be kept for industry and Tata Motors can set up industry there if they agree. Ms. Banerjee said that her Government is ready to give compensation to the Tata Motors if they demand. The Chief Minister said that the nitty-gritty of returning the land to the unwilling farmers will be finalised by the local peoples' representatives. She said that her party gave an election promise to return 400 acres of land to the unwilling farmers of Singur if voted to power.
