In West Bengal, the State government plans to withdraw the full Trade Union Rights of its employees. Giving this information in Kolkata, the state Labour Minister Mr. Purnendu Basu told that the Service Conduct Rules of the government employees of 1981 will be amended for this purpose.Mr.Basu said that the Labour Department will put the proposal to the state cabinet for its approval. AIR Kolkata correspondent reports that the erstwhile Left Front government gave the Rights to its employees in 1981 by incorporating a clause in the West Bengal Service Rule. If the clause is withdrawn by the cabinet decision, government employees will not be able to launch agitation, dharna, hunger strike or other forms of movements to press their demands. The state government has already banned Trade Union Rights in the police force by forming a Police Welfare Board.Meanwhile, different state government employees and associations have condemned the government's move and have threatened larger protests on the issue.
