Bengal govt not to scrap tram services in city

The West Bengal government today said that it has no plans to scrap the iconic tram services of Kolkata. <br/><br/>During the passage of the Stage-Carriages (Repealing) Bill, 2017 in the assembly, State Transport Minister Subhendu Adhikary gave this information. <br/><br/>However, he said, tram services on some loss-making and congested routes might be discontinued. Mr Adhikary said, the Bill, was as per the Law Commission of India's recommendation and had no relevance in the present times. <br/><br/>He said, several state assemblies had also done this. The minister said, the repeal has no connection with the horse-driven stage carriages which ply around areas like Babughat, Victoria Memorial and others.
