The West Bengal Government has announced drought in 11 districts of the State due to inadequate rainfall. Announcing this in Kolkata this afternoon, the State Finance Minister, Dr. Asim Dasgupta said that the Government has sanctioned 50 crore rupees to deal with the situation for agricultural work. Meanwhile, the State Chief Minister, Mr. Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has urged the Union Agriculture Minister, Mr. Sharad Pawar to send a Central team to assess the situation in the State arising out of inadequate rainfall. AIR Kolkata Correspondent reports that the State has received 30 per cent shortage of rainfall so far which has affected agri production in a big way. The State Government is now concentrating for alternative cultivation of crops. Earlier, the State Chief Minister reviewed the situation with the State Agriculture, Relief and Irrigation Minister on the issue.
