Polling is underway for the fifth phase of Assembly elections in West Bengal. Voting is taking place in 38 constituencies spread over West Midnapur, Bankura, Purulia and Burdwan districts in this phase. Polling, which started at 7 am, will end at 5 in the evening. One ninety three candidates, including State Health Minister Surya Kanta Mishra and Pradesh Congress President Manad Bhuiya are in the fray. More than 9,400 polling booths have been set up in four districts. Elaborate security arrangements have been made to ensure free and fair polls. Besides State Police, 450 Companies of Central Para-Military forces have been deployed. Two helicopters are also pressed into service for air surveillance. Two General, 7 Expenditure and four Police observers are constantly monitoring the poll process.
