In West Bengal, over 30 per cent polling was recorded in first four hours of voting for the 5th phase of Assembly elections in 38 seats covering parts of West Midnapur, Bankura, Purulia and Burdwan districts. AIR correspondent reports, people came out in large number to cast their votes braving scorching heat. Polling is going peacefully amid unprecedented security arrangements. Two helicopters are making air surveillance to avoid any untoward incident.State Chief Electoral Officer Sunil Gupta said 44 electronic voting machines were replaced in various polling booths due to technical snag. Besides, three presiding officers were also removed from duties in West Midnapur and Purulia districts for illness and language problems. Two persons have been arrested from Burdwan district as preventive measure.
