Beijing gets immersed in Holi colours and witnesses vibrant Indian culture

China's capital Beijing immersed in Holi colours and witnessed the vibrant Indian culture as over 2,500 Chinese and expatriates flocked to the Indian Embassy's grand 'Vasant Mela and Holi' celebrations at the sprawling 'India House' lawns over this weekend.<br />'' <br />'' Friends from different walks of life felt the joy of togetherness in a magnificent show of India's soft power which became another occasion for India's diplomatic outreach as a decked-up 'India House' welcomed the guests, including Ambassadors from the United States, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Maldives, etc. and senior diplomats from more than 40 countries.<br />'' <br />'' Welcoming the guests, Ambassador Pradeep Rawat highlighted the essence of the Holi festival as a celebration of friendship and love. US Ambassador to China Nicholas Burns in a tweet congratulated India's Ambassador Pradeep Kumar Rawat and the Indian Embassy for the vibrant celebrations.<br />''  <br />'' The cultural performances ranging across five segments had a heady mix of classical and fusion music, western and Indian dances, yoga demonstrations, interactive quizzes and audience challenge segments that culminated with a crescendo of a flash mob. It also featured a grand amalgamation of four styles of classical dance- Bharatanatyam, Odissi, Kuchipudi and Kathak by Chinese and Indian artists. Various stalls at the mela presented Indian handicrafts, diverse cuisines and activities for children and adults along with non-stop day-long cultural extravaganza.<br />'' <br />''Besides the cultural program and sumptuous Indian food, foreigners lived the moment to the hilt in a burst of colours as they smeared each other's faces with herbal Holi colours and danced to the tunes of peppy Holi and Bollywood numbers.<br />
