Delhi Police have rejected reports that it raided Kerala House following a complaint that its canteen was serving beef and described police action as a preventive measure. Talking to reporters in New Delhi today, Police Commissioner B S Bassi said police had received a call that beef was being served and it only visited to make inquiries. He said that Kerala House staff have apprised the police of the absence of beef items on their menu and that police personnel were deployed to prevent any sort of protest.

Mr Bassi said under the Delhi Agricultural Cattle Preservation Act, slaughter of cows, calves of cows, bulls and bullocks is illegal. Earlier, Aam Aadmi Party condemned Delhi Police action. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said police had no business entering the Kerala House and it is an attack on the federal structure.
