In Jammu & Kashmir, both Houses of Jammu and Kashmir Legislature witnessed pandemonium today as Opposition members jointly sought discussions on beef ban issue, imposition of service tax on helicopter passengers and plight of the victims of 2014 floods. The Opposition members had brought five separate adjournment motions on the controversial issues but the Speaker insisted on carrying routine business. The Speaker adjourned the House when unrelenting opposition refused to budge despite two earlier recalls. The House effectively functioned for less than 10 minutes and answers from two ministers during question hour were lost in din. The situation was virtually out-of-control in the assembly where tempestuous members flung torn off papers, dislodged furniture and had face-off with the floor staff.

AIR correspondent reports that despite the presence of Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed and Opposition leader Omar Abdullah, the House was virtually under the command of slogan-shouting members. The State Govt has welcomed the Supreme Court decision to suspend the order of Jammu wing of J&K High Court on beef ban for two months. Education Minister & Govt spokesman Naeem Akhtar said the order of the Apex Court has come as a relief for the government. Last month, the Jammu wing of the State High Court order evoked public outcry in the State. Naeem said keeping in view the sensibilities there is a need to evolve consensus on the matter in the Legislature. National Conference legislator & former Assembly Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone said the govt should cannot use the Supreme Court's order on beef ban judgement as an escape route to disallow the State Assembly to scrap the beef ban law. The Apex Court has asked the Chief Justice of High Court to set up a three-judge bench and find a solution at the earliest.
