The five day Director general level meeting between the Border Security Force and the Bangladesh Rifles began in Dhaka on Thursday. The twenty member, Indian Delegation is led by the Director General of BSF Raman Srivastava while the BDR chief Major-General Rafiqul Islam is leading a 22 member delegation at the talks being held at the BDR Headquarters. Issues related to counter-terrorism, co-operation against insurgency, better border management and steps to prevent smuggling are high on the agenda during the five day talks. The BSF Chief will also call on the Bangladesh Home Minister Sahara Khatun on Thursday afternoon.In the joint statement issued during the visit of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to India in January this year both the Prime Minister’s had stressed on the need for greater co-ordination between the border forces to curtail illegal activities in the border areas.
