In Meghalaya, a Block Development Officer was abducted from his office in West Garo Hills district yesterday by a suspected militant group belonging to the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA). Talking to media persons, the Inspector General of Police of Western Range, Garo Hills, G H P Raju said that the state's Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) commandos and Combat Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) of the CRPF have been pressed into service to track down the rebels who are suspected to be holed up in the Garo Hills region.
