B'desh Wage Board finalises wage structure of garment factory workers

In Bangladesh, the government appointed Wage Board has finalized the wage structure of garment factory workers setting 5300 takas minimum monthly wage and 6800 takas as maximum. The Wage Board has also recommended 5% annual increase in basic pay, a benefit that workers will be getting for the first time. The wage structure was finalised after long discussions with government officals, and representatives of factory owners and workers late last night.Meanwhile Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) today starts surveying over 2000 factory buildings for structural integrity and fire & electrical safety in an ILO sponsored move to improve working conditions in the factories.
