B'desh to use EVM for first time on a trial basis

Bangladesh will be using the Electronic voting machine for the first time on a trial basis during the upcoming city corporation elections in Chittagong scheduled to take place on June 17th.<br/><br/>Talking exclusively to All India Radio on the sidelines of the SAARC Chief Election Commissioners meet in Dhaka, Bangladesh Chief Election Commisioner A T M Shamsul Huda said that evm’s would be used in one centre during the Chittagong City Corporation polls which would have around 20,000 votes. <br/><br/>Mr Huda said that the evm’s will be used on an experimental basis in different level of polls and the election commission would prepare a working paper based on the analysis of these trials and also drawing lessons from India which was a pioneer in the electronic voting process. He also added that the Bangladesh election commission will have to hold discussion with the political parties to examine the use of EVM’s on a universal scale.
