B’desh to sign MoU with India on power exchange deal

Bangladesh cabinet has cleared the proposed landmark power exchange deal with India which will allow the import and export of electricity amounting to over 900 million units per annum. Official sources in Dhaka said, the Memorandum of Understanding, expected to be signed during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's January 10 visit to India, will allow both countries to exchange power according to their needs. The project cost is estimated at around 200 million dollars. According to PM's press secretary Abul Kalam Azad, the proposal also carries an option to purchase power from both public and private sectors of India.
