The Bangladesh government on Thursday announced the setting up of a special tribunal to try the people involved in war crimes during the 1971 Liberation War. Briefing reporters in Dhaka on Thursday, Law Minister Shafique Ahmed said the three member tribunal was set up under the section six of the International Crimes (Tribunal) Act 1973 with High Court judge Mohammad Nizamul Haque as its chairman. The other two members of the tribunal are High Court Judge AKM Fazle Kabir and Retired District judge AKM Zahir Ahmed. The tribunal will be holding trial of the war crimes committed during the liberation War in 1971. <br/><br/>The law minister also announced the setting up of a prosecution team of 12 lawyers and a seven-member team for investigation. Advocate Golam Arif Tipu will lead the prosecution team while former additional secretary Abdul Matin will lead the investigation team. The Law minister added that the tribunal and the investigation agency would start functioning immediately and modus operandi of the investigations would be decided by the agency itself.
