Bangladesh’s elite security force the Rapid Action Battalion on Thursday arrested Maulana Yahiya, chief of banned militant outfit Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami (HuJi) along with his two accomplices. According to RAB officials the three were arrested based on a tip off by intercepting a Kishoreganj-bound passenger bus from Sylhet on Thursday early morning. The RAB team has reportedly recovered some training manuals of the outfit and books related to making explosives from the possession of the three arrested persons. Maulana Yahia who has been operating as the HuJI chief after the arrest of Mufti Abdul Hannan, was absconding for long and is wanted in several high profile militant attack cases. Moulana Yahia is alleged to one of the key persons involved in the August 21 grenade attack on Sheikh Hasina’s rally in 2004 and Ramna Batamul bomb attack in 2001 during the Bangla New Year celebrations. He is also accused in the case related to planting of a bomb in the year 2000 at Kotalipara in Gopalganj in a failed bid to kill Sheikh Hasina.
