The Bangladesh Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed the review petition of the BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s elder son Tarique Rahman to review its verdict on a money-laundering case.The move paves the way for the proceedings to begin in the trial court.Tarique Rehman who is also the senior Vice Chairman of the main opposition party, the BNP, filed a review petition against the apex court’s order which upheld the High Court Verdict that he could be tried for money laundering charges under the 2002 law instead of the one framed in 2009.With the seven member headed by Chief justice Mohammad Muzammel Hossain dismissing the review petition on Thursday, decks have been cleared for the case proceedings to begin in the trial court.The case was filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission against Tarique Rehman and his friend Giasuddin Al Mamun in October 2009 on charges of transferring money worth nearly 14.57 crore rupees to Singapore between 2003 and 2007, violating the Money Laundering Act.Tarique Rahman was arrested on Mar 7, 2007 but he later secured bail and is currently living in London undergoing medical treatment.
