B'desh PM Hasina leaves Dhaka for Beijing

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today left Dhaka for Beijing on a state visit to China. During her stay in Beijing, she will hold talks with the Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and President Hu Jintao. <br/><br/>The two sides are expected to sign three agreements which include an ‘Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement’, ‘Framework Agreement on Shahjalal Fertilizer Factory’ and ‘Agreement on 7th Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge’. <br/><br/>The Bangladesh Prime Minister is also hoping to gain the support of China to connect Chittagong port with Kunming city in China via Myanmar by road and rail links. Sheikh Hasina is being accompanied by Communications Minister Syed Abul Hossain, Industries Minister Dilip Barua, Foreign Minister Dipu Moni and State Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Dipankar Talukdar along with a delegation of eminent businesspersons. Bilateral Trade between the two countries is at the level of 4.5 billion US dollars, with Bangladesh facing a huge trade deficit. <br/><br/>Sheikh Hasina’s discussions with the Chinese leaders is expected to focus on enhancing Chinese investments in Bangladesh in addition to strengthening co-operation in sectors like Climate change mitigation and adaptation measures, telecommunication, agriculture , river basin management and power sector especially in the area of renewable energy. <br/><br/>Sheikh Hasina will also visit Kunming, the capital of Yunnan province of China on the last leg of her tour before returning to Dhaka on 21st March.<br/>
