B'desh PM Hasina keen to explore investment options in NE power sector

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that her government is keen to explore investment options in the power sector in the northeast India. The Bangladesh Prime Minister expressed her views during her discussions with a 16-member delegation led by Chief Minister of Meghalaya Mukul Sangma and Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki who called on her at her official Ganobhaban residence in Dhaka yesterday. Briefing reporters about the meeting, Bangladesh Prime Minister's Deputy Press Secretary Bijan Lal Dev said that the Prime Minister in her remarks said that Bangladesh could consider importing hydroelectricity from Arunachal Pradesh or set up a joint venture power plant in the state. Reiterating that Bangladesh attaches highest importance to its relationship with India, Shiekh Hasina emphasized the need to expand trade relations with northeastern states of India and said her government would take more trade-friendly steps to expand the trade ties with northeastern states. The delegation urged the Bangladesh Prime Minister to take steps for expanding the existing Dhaka-Agartala road connectivity for mutual benefits of the two countries.
