B'desh hopes to win Chinese support for Kunming city-Chittagong port road link

Bangladesh hopes to win the support of China to build a road link between Kunming city and Chittagong port via Myanmar. Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dipu Moni told reporters in Dhaka that Prime Minister Shiekh Hasina will raise this issue during her discussions with her Chinese Premier Wen Jia Bao during her visit to Bejiing beginning from March 17th. China and Bangladesh are likely to sign a framework agreement for setting up of a fertlizer factory. In addition to this China will also provide financial aid for the construction of the seventh Bangladesh- China Friendship Bridge and a Bangladesh -China Exhibition centre. Issues related to connectivity, funding of infrastructure projects, bilateral trade, telecommunication, agriculture, Mitigation and adaptation measures for Climate change and co-operation in power sector especially in renewable energy sources are likely to dominate the agenda of discussions between the two sides during the visit. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will also visit Kunming the capital of China’s Yunnan province on March 20th before leaving for Dhaka the next day.
