B’desh hopes to ink Teesta pact in 3 months

Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Mijarul Quayes on Thrusday said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is hopeful that the deal to share Teesta water with India will be signed in three months. Briefing reporters in Dhaka , he said that the water sharing treaty would be signed as per the draft text that was already agreed upon by Bangladesh and India before Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s visit and there will be no change in it.Describing Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s visit as a high point in the continuum of India Bangladesh bilateral relations, he said the visit of the two Prime Ministers to each other countries has resolved many long standing problems between the two countries.Mr. Quayes added that there were a total of 18 specific agreements, protocol or Memorandum of Understanding which were being discussed and negotiated to be signed during the visit , but finally 10 deals were inked, and the remaining will be concluded in the days to come.Mr.Quayes said the signing of the comprehensive “Framework Agreement on Cooperation for Development” is a historic instrument that outlines the shared vision for durable and long-term cooperation between the two countries.
