In Bangladesh the Supreme Court has fixed January 24th of this month for hearing the review petitions filed by Bazlul Huda and AKM Mohiuddin Ahmed against a verdict confirming their death sentences in Bangabandhu murder case. <br/><br/>Chamber judge of the Appellate Division Justice Md Muzammel Hossain fixed the date today in response to the government’s plea for expeditious hearing of the two review petitions.<br/><br/>Both Huda and Mohiuddin filed petitions on Sunday for review of the Supreme Court judgment that upheld death sentence of the five convicts. Huda, AKM Mohiuddin and another convict Mohiuddin Ahmed have also submitted clemency petitions to the President while Syed Faruque Rahman and Sultan Shahriar Rashid Khan have not sought clemency yet but are likely to file review petitions with the Supreme Court.<br/><br/>The Supreme Court, in a historic judgment had rejected the appeals of the five convicted killers on Nov 19 last year, upholding the High Court's death penalties in the case. Earlier in the first week of January, a Dhaka district and sessions judge issued death warrants for all the five to Dhaka Central Jail, where the convicted killers are being held.
