B'desh Govt decides to rename Zia International Airport

The Bangladesh government on Monday decided to rename the Zia International Airport after the great Muslim saint Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. The decision to rename the airport of Dhaka was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad told reporters after the cabinet meeting that the government has also decided to rename other establishments across the country whose names had been changed by the earlier BNP-Jamaat led four-party alliance government. The cabinet move comes nearly a week after the Supreme Court rejected pettitions to appeal against the High Court verdict on the fifth amendment which held that the regimes between August 15, 1975 and 1979, headed by Khandaker Mushtaque Ahmed, Abu Sa'dat Mohammad Sayem and Zia-ur Rahman were illegal.
