In Bangladesh, the International Crimes Tribunal set up to look into the war crimes of 1971 has asked the police to detain the four top Jamaat-e-Islami leaders including its chief Matiur Rahman Nizami in prison until further orders. The order was issued by the tribunal today in Dhaka when Nizami and the three other leaders Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid, Muhammad Qamaruzzaman and Abdul Quader Mollah who have been arrested in other cases were produced by the jail authorities before the tribunal.The tribunal issued the order following the prosecutions plea hat the investigation agency while conducting inquiry on the crimes committed against humanity has obtained information regarding the involvement of the Jamaat leaders in gruesome crimes like genocide, killing, torture and arson attacks during the 1971 liberation war. The Lawyers of the Jammat leaders sought to submit an application for the recall of the arrest warrants but the tribunal asked the counsel to follow due procedure by filing the application with the Registrar of the tribunal.
