B'desh considering proposal to sign free trade agreement with India

Bangladesh is actively considering the proposal to sign a free trade agreement with India. <br/><br/>Addressing an Indo-Bangla workshop in Dhaka on the significance of Prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to India, Bangladesh Commerce Minister Mohammed Faruk Khan said that his ministry is actively analysing the free trade agreement proposal and he sees no reason as to why it should not be signed soon. <br/><br/>Mr. Khan also stressed on the need for a time frame for the quick implementation of the agreements reached on trade and commerce issues during Sheikh Hasina’s visit to India.<br/><br/> He said that he is hopeful that the Joint Secretary’s of the commerce ministries of both the countries will meet next month to sort out the outstanding issues.<br/><br/>During Sheikh Hasina’s visit, both the countries agreed to address issues related to removal of tariff and Non tariff barriers. India had also agreed to support the upgradation of the Bangladesh Standard Testing Institute to build capacity building for certification.
