At least 42 people were killed in hilly districts of south eastern Bangladesh due to landslides caused by incessant rains yesterday. While 25 people died in Rangamati, 6 were killed in Bandarban and 11 in Rangunia and Chandanaish upazilas of Chittagong. The deceased include women and children. <br/><br/>Two more are reportedly missing and rescue operations are going on amidst heavy rains triggered by a depression in the Bay of Bengal. PTI reports that Chittagong district administration has formed two teams led by two executive magistrates to avoid further incidents of landslides. They will evict people living at risky spots near the hills.<br/><br/>Yesterday's rains have inundated large parts of Chittagong with people having to navigate waist-deep water for their daily chores. Many low-lying parts of Dhaka have also come under water.<br/><br/>The latest disaster came after Cyclone Mora smashed into Bangladesh's southeast last month, killing at least eight people.
