B’desh 2009 mutiny: Death sentence to 152 , life imprisonment to 158 BDR jawans

In Bangladesh, a Special Trial Court today sentenced 152 BDR jawans to death for their involvement in 2009 BDR Mutiny case. 158 BDR jawans were sentenced to life imprisonment including one leader each from Awami League and Bangladesh Nationalist Party. Delivering the judgement, the special court in Dhaka awarded 251 jawans between three to ten years ranging from 3 to 10 years . 241 others have been acquitted.
73 people including 59 army officers of the Bangladesh Rifles were killed during the Mutiny at its headquarters in Pheelkhana in Dhaka in 2009.
Security officials said over 1,000 policemen and members of elite anti-crime Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) forces are guarding the makeshift court complex at old Dhaka.
