The Board of Control for Cricket in India, BCCI, has suspended Rajashtan Royals co-owner Raj Kundra for his involvement in betting in IPL matches, pending inquiry.
The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of BCCI working committee in New Delhi today. The decision followed Kundra's confession to the Delhi Police that he had placed bets on his team in IPL cricket tournament.
He had told the Police that he placed bets to the tune of one crore rupees on IPL matches in the last three years. According to media reports, BCCI will investigate all possible angles to determine whether the claims made by the Delhi Police on Kundra are valid in a court of law.
In an another related development, Mr Ravi Sawant has been appointed as Treasurer of the BCCI replacing Ajay Shirke. Mr Shirke had resigned in the wake of alleged role of BCCI President N Srinivasan's son-in-law in the spot fixing case.
Yesterday, the Delhi Police had written to the Enforcement Directorate to investigate hawala transactions in connection with IPL spot-fixing case.
Earlier it had also invoked stringent provisions of Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act, MCOCA, against all the accused arrested in connection with spot fixing in IPL.
