BCCI suspends CSK's Meiyappan till IPL spot fixing probe over

The BCCI today suspended Chennai Super Kings' CEO Gurunath Meiyappan, who was arrested for alleged involvement in betting. Meiyappan, who is the son-in-law of BCCIpresident N Srinivasan, was arrested by the Mumbai Police on Friday for allegedly indulging in betting.

BCCI secretary Sanjay Jagdale said in a statement that as an accredited team official, Mr Meiyappan is subject to the provisions of the T20 League Operational Rules and the BCCI Anti-Corruption Code for Participants.

He said, pending further investigations and any subsequent hearing by the BCCI Disciplinary Committee or the T20 League Code of Behaviour Committee, Mr Meiyappan is suspended from any involvement in the sport of cricket and in particular from any involvement with the Chennai Super Kings team.

Meanwhile, a four member police team from Mumbai with the assistance of the Chennai Police are conducting searches at the residence of Gurunath Meiyappan in Chennai.

Mumbai Police had sought the Court Order for conducting searches for the mobile phones, laptop and I pad which were used by him in the alleged connection with bookies in betting for cricket matches during the IPL season.A top official of the India Cements is also present alongwith the police.

The BCCI has been left facing with a massive crisis after three cricketers of the Rajasthan Royals, including Test pacer S Sreesanth, were arrested for allegedly indulging in spot-fixing.

The arrests opened a pandora's box and the controversy reached Srinivasan's doorstep due to Gurunath's alleged betting link.The BCCI chief is under tremendous pressure to step down on moral grounds but has remained defiant so far.
