BCCI President N Srinivasan today remained adamant on his stand that he will not resign from his post. Mr. Srinivasan brushed aside IPL Commissioner Rajiv Shukla’ statement that he should step aside till the three member commission finishes its probe into allegations of betting and spot-fixing during IPL. Speaking to reporters in Mumbai, Mr. Srinivasan once again reiterated that he has already disassociated himself from the probe. He added that the probe panel will be totally independent and as per stated procedure, free to decide upon the terms of reference of the probe, impose sanctions and punishment.
Late last night, BCCI had formed a three member probe panel to investigate allegations of betting and spot fixing against Srinivasan’s son-in-law and erstwhile owner of Chennai Superkings, Gurunath Meiyappan and three Rajasthan Royals players
Earlier in the day Rajiv Shukla asked BCCI President N. Srinivasan to step down untill probe against his son-in-law in the spot fixing case is over. Shukla met BCCI Vice President Arun Jaitley in New Delhi, said they both are of the opinion that Srinivasan should keep himself away while the probe is on.
Power Minister and BCCI member Jyotiraditya Scindia also said that his personal opinion was that Srinivasan should step down form the post of BCCI president as a proble is on into spot fixing.
In a related devolpment ,A Mumbai court today extended the police custody of Chennai Super King (CSK) team owner Gurunath Meiyappan till 31st May. Meiyappan was arrested on charges of betting and spot-fixing a few days back. Meiyappan was produced before the court today. Police has collected call data records of conversations between Actor Vindoo Dara Singh and Meiyappan said police sources. Three mobile phones, five sim cards and one diary has been recovered from Meiyappan.
