BCCI begins probe into spot-fixing scandal in IPL

The Board of Control for Cricket in India, BCCI has begun a probe into the spot-fixing scandal that rocked the IPL. One of the suspended domestic players Shalabh Srivastava deposed before the Inquiry Commission on Wednesday. Ravi Sawani, who is heading the inquiry commission, met Srivastava to hear his side of the story on the sting operation. Sawani, who is Chief of the BCCI's Anti-Corruption unit, has been asked to submit his report to the BCCI's Disciplinary Committee within 15 days. Earlier on Wednesday, Sports Minister Ajay Maken said that the BCCI should go into the root cause of the spot-fixing scandal. Mr Maken told reporters in New Delhi that the BCCI should distance itself from running the IPL to avoid overlapping of interests. The Sports Minister also favoured the BCCI being brought under the RTI to bring about much-needed credibility. Mr Maken suggested that politicians should keep away from running sports bodies.
