BBSM organises’Chakka Jaam' in north and south Goa

In Goa, the Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch, BBSM, today organised a ‘Chakka Jaam' in north and south Goa districts in protest against the state Cabinet's decision to give financial grants to English medium primary schools in the state along with Konkani and Marathi. The Chakka Jaam paralysed traffic for over two hours on main roads in both the districts. The issue had erupted after a section of the members of the ruling Congress in Goa exerted pressure on the government to give grants to English medium primary schools in the state. The financial grants are hitherto given to only Konkani / Marathi primary medium schools. The BBSM is of the opinion that the decision of the state government will make extinct the regional languages in the state thus promoting English. The Manch has decided to intensify their stir and have also given a call for a Goa Bandh on June 4.
