The four Lok Sabha constituencies in Western region of Maharashtra-Pune – Baramati, Pune, Maval and Shirur which go to the polls on Thursday will be keenly watched for having political heavy weights in the multi cornered contests.
Pune Loksabha Constituency is currently represented by Suresh Kalmadi of Congress. However, the Party has fielded Maharashtra Pradesh Youth Congress President Vishwajeet Kadam who will face BJP,s Padmakar Shirole.
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena,s candidate Deepak Paigude is likely to divide the votes of Congress and BJP. The Aam Aadmi Party also has fielded its candidate Subhash Ware in Pune.
Baramati Loksabha constituency which has been a stronghold of NCP for many years has fielded sitting MP Supriya Sule, the daughter of Party President Sharad Pawar who will have a fight with Mahadeo Janker of Rashtriya Samaj Party.
In Shirur Loksabha Constituency incumbent MP Shivajirao Adhalrao Patil of Shiv Sena is again in the fray and he will face a relatively new candidate Devdatta Nikam of NCP.
Maval Lok Sabha constituency comprises 3 Assembly segments from Pune district and is dominated by NCP. Shetkari Kamgar Party dominates the three assembly segments in Raigad district. Presently,Shiv sena,s Gajanan Babar represents the constituency and this time the party has fielded Shrirang Barne.
NCP loyalist MLA of Pimpri Chinchwad Laxman Jagtap has left the party and is contesting as an independent candidate with the support from Shetkari Kamgar Party while NCP has given ticket to a new face Rahul Narveker who has recently left shiv sena to join NCP. The constituency is likely to face a straight fight between Gajanan Babar and Laxman Jagtap.
