Bassi asks JNU students to prove their innocence

Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi has asked the JNU students facing sedition charges to prove their innocence. Five students to whom, the police have been looking for in connection with the case, surfaced in the University campus last night saying they did not do anything wrong. Talking to media, Mr. Bassi said the students should join the police investigation and if they are innocent, they should present evidence. <br/><br/>On a question whether the police will enter the campus to arrest them, Mr. Bassi said the investigating officer will exercise the best available option saying Delhi police always aim for maintaining the law and order situation. He added the police entering the campus will not deteriorate the situation in the University.<br/><br/> Mr Bassi also said that Delhi police will proceed into the case as per law. Reports say, the police is waiting for Vice-Chancellor's permission to enter the campus to effect arrest. The accused students had gone missing after the arrest of JNU Students Union President Kanhaiya Kumar over the charges of raising anti-India slogans during an event at JNU on 9th of this month.
