Banks to disburse 7 lakh 50 thousand crore rupees as agriculture loan: FM

Finance Minister P Chidambaram said that the Centre is committed to give increased support price for food grains like paddy, wheat to farmers. He was inaugurating the 1459th branch of Vijaya Bank in Thayamangalam in Sivaganga district of Tamil Nadu today. He said that in the last ten years the minimum support price for paddy has been raised ten times.

Chidambaram said that banks have targeted to disburse 7 lakh 50,000 crore rupees as agriculture loan this year. He said that the interest for agriculture loan is only 7 per cent and interest subvention of 4 per cent is given to those who repay the loans. Earlier Minister Chidambaram alongwith Union Textiles Minister K Sambasiva Rao inaugurated National Textile Corporation’s second unit at Kalayarkoil in Sivaganga district today.
