All the 214 bank branches in Puducherry will work in campaign mode today and tomorrow to help people open bank accounts. This is in support of Prime Minister's Jan Dhan Yojana. A total 31,000 new bank accounts have been opened in the Union Territory since the launch of the scheme on 28th of last month. KYC norms are relaxed and stipulation on minimum balance done away with, under the scheme to facilitate opening of bank accounts by all. Bank branches are asked to conduct surveys in their respective areas to identify families without a bank account and assist them open accounts.Authorities are confident of achieving the target of providing at least one bank account for the three lakh two thousand households in the four regions of the UT by the end of the month. Lead Manager Shri. Parameswaran, told AIR correspondent that as there is a bank branch for every 4000 population in the Union Territory, the goal is achievable.
