Banking operations hit due to nationwide strike

Banking operations were affected today due to the nationwide strike called by various bank unions to press for a wage revision. In the national capital, banking transactions including withdrawal and clearance of cheques were also affected. Common man had to face a lot of problems due to the strike. However services at ATMs of all the banks were normal, barring a few cases where the machines ran out of cash.In Uttar Pradesh,according to an estimate, financial transactions of worth Rs 45000 crore effected in the state due to bank strike. About 66 thousand employees of 7500 various banks in state halted their work. Some private banks were also taking part in strike. Bank union leaders were seen holding meetings and protest demonstration to press their demands at many places. At Lucknow, 8000 employees of 800 branches of different banks took part in the strike.The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) consisting of nine national level unions had gone on a two-day strike . The wage revision of public sector bank employees has been due since November 2012.
