The bank unions have threatened to go for a one-day strike today to protest on various issues including outsourcing of permanent jobs and compensation for employees for extra work done after the demonetisation last year.General Secretary of the All India Bank Employees' Association, C H Venkatachalam said, about 10 lakh employees and officers in all public sector banks including SBI, PNB, Regional Rural Banks and Co-operative banks will take part in the strike. He said, bank managements represented by the Indian Bank Associations did not agree to demands put forward by the nine unions. Mr Venkatachalam said, government should reimburse cost of demonetisation to banks, settle employee's pending issues and recover bad loans and take criminal action against willful defaulters. However, the functioning of private banks like ICICI, HDFC, Axis and others is expected to be normal except for delays in cheque clearance. As many as 27 public sector banks control 75 per cent of the total business in the country.
