The value of banknotes in circulation in the country as on 26th of November this year is Rs. 8,89,288 crore. Giving this information in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said the Reserve Bank of India arrives at the requirements for banknotes on the basis of Top-Down and Bottom-UP approaches.
