A Bangladeshi court on Wednesday indicted 430 people in connection with a 2009 deadly mutiny among border guards. The suspects appeared before a special court set up in the capital, Dhaka to try the mutineers. Metropolitan Sessions Judge Zahurul Haque read out charges against the accused, including murder, arson and looting. They pleaded not guilty.More than 2000 border guards are accused of crimes associated with the rebellion that began on February 25, 2009 at the Bangladesh Rifles headquarters in Dhaka and left 74 people dead, including many senior army officers. The head of the committee investigating the uprising said frustration over low pay and poor treatment led to the revolt. He said the border guards were particularly disgruntled about their salary structure, and not being able to get promotions or positions as UN peacekeepers.
